SLSRC’s Meeting Friday, May 25th – Presenter- Sterling Coffey (NØSSC)

This Friday, May 25th at 7:00 PM will be the St. Louis & Suburban Radio Club’s monthly meeting.  Our presentation this month will be by Sterling Coffey (NØSCC).

You may have heard rumors that ham radio is dying, that the bands and repeaters are deader than ever, and that there’s no new hams to fill the airwaves as more and more operators become SKs.  Fortunately, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Sterling will be here to dispel the myth, and to talk about the many activities, initiatives, and organizations involved with promoting more activity in the hobby, especially with young people.  Looking back on Hamvention and forward to Friedrichshafen-Ham Radio (aka Hamvention in Europe), one can see the enormous gains of activity in some parts of the hobby, and the resulting losses in others – all due to the ever-changing landscape of amateur radio.

The discussion will revolve around topics like the Entry Level License proposal, Youngsters on the Air, Collegiate Amateur Radio Initiative, and more.  He will also be talking about how you, the individual, and ourselves, as a club, can help fix the elmering gap caused by a huge influx of technician licensees met with a waning brigade of elmers and fewer opportunities to get on the air.

The meeting will be at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in rooms 419 & 420 of the Clinical Learning Institute/Goldfarb School of Nursing.

Hope to see you there!
