SLSRC September 27th Program & Meeting – Rockets and Radio by Morgan Lyons – KI5SXY

The month of September will have a program called “Rockets and Radio” by Morgan Lyons (KI5SXY).

Morgan Lyons KI5SXY, AKA “Rocketgirl,” is a fifth-year undergraduate student pursuing a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T). She intends to obtain her MS in Systems Engineering, beginning in January 2025.

Morgan launched her first rocket in March of 2021 and instantly fell in love with the hobby. Since then, she has participated in the manufacturing and launching of over eight high-power rockets and has achieved her Level 3 certification, the highest honor for amateur rocketry. She is a member of the Tripoli Rocketry Association, an international club for rocketeers, based in the United States. Through amateur rocketry, Morgan discovered a passion for small electronics and radios. She regularly uses these devices to record live telemetry and track her rockets as they fly up to six miles up into the atmosphere.

Morgan is an Amateur Extra class radio operator and currently the President for the oldest student organization on her campus, the Missouri S&T Amateur Radio Club (WØEEE). In this role, she leads the club in all its endeavors including license classes and testing sessions, technical projects, and community service. She also manages communications between the club and the university, as well as various major amateur radio journals.
