November 18, 2016 Meeting--Speaker, Jim Kramper (NØLSX), National Weather Service

SLSRC was honored to have Jim Kramper, NØLSX, Warning Coordination Meteorologist as the presenter at it's November 18th meeting.  Mr. Kramper presented a review of the December 2015 heavy rain event, and look at potential changes in the National Weather Service down the road.

Known as the Weather Czar of St. Louis, Mr. Kramper has been the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in St. Louis, MO since February 1992.  He began his National Weather Service career in 1985, and has also worked in National Weather Service offices in Cheyenne, WY and Little Rock, AR.

As Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Mr. Kramper oversees the public information program, with special emphasis on hazardous weather.  He actively promotes weather preparedness across a 46 county area in Missouri and Illinois.  Mr. Kramper works as the liaison between the National Weather Service and state and local governments, the media, and the emergency management community.  He also is in charge of Skywarn, the volunteer severe storm spotter program.

Mr. Kramper received his Bachelors of Science degree in meteorology from Parks College of St. Louis University in 1979.  He has received national recognition for his work, receiving the award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Education from the National Weather Association in 1990.  In 2015, he received an Isaac Cline Award for outstanding contributions to the emergency management community for decision support services.
